Born in Mexico City in May 1967, Aspe began his senior career with UNAM Pumas in 1984.
During his time with Pumas until 1991, he scored 40 goals in 180 appearances.
Aspe then joined Necaxa in 1991, where he played 185 games and scored 69 goals.
He briefly played for River Plate on loan in 1995. In 1997, he moved to Club America, scoring 11 goals in 66 appearances before joining Puebla in 1999.
He concluded his career there in 2002, playing 97 games and scoring 29 goals.
Aspe represented Mexico internationally from 1988 to 2002, playing in 109 matches and scoring 21 goals.
He participated in the FIFA World Cups of 1994, 1998, and 2002 and was part of the Mexican team that won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1999.
After retiring, Aspe became an executive for Pumas UNAM.
